Two years ago, I was working a dry office job and felt like I was totally stuck. Without a plan, I quit and found myself in the video production world. I had always loved movies and I quickly became fascinated with the whole process of movie making—and editing in particular. My boss mentioned The Edit Center to me and I managed to talk to a few alumni who strongly urged me to sign up. I went to the six-week Art of Editing class that summer and realized quickly that it was going to change my life. The technical know-how came fast with the immersive first week and the hands-on instruction. But the meat of the program, and the reason it is so strong, came with the weeks of actual narrative and documentary editing. With mentors in the field lending their personal attention to every cut I made, and with fully invested peers, I was in the perfect environment to really and truly learn the art of editing. Mere months after I finished the course, I was assisting on projects that have been successful and which I have greatly enjoyed. I feel now that I have the support and the skills I need to work in this creative field that two years ago I would never have thought I was capable of doing. I thank The Edit Center endlessly for changing the course of my life and for giving me lifelong friends and mentors.
