Two Alumni Films Open in Theaters This Week!

It's a big week for alums Jenny Lee and Stephanie Ahn. Jenny edited and produced The Skeleton Twins, starring Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader. And Stephanie edited My Old Lady, starring Kevin Kline, Maggie Smith, and Kristin Scott Thomas. Both films open this week.

Class Film Getting Great Reviews

The Punk Singer, one of the projects in the May/June 2011 class, has been getting lots of raves. It has an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes right now and today it got another great review in The Guardian. The documentary follows punk legend Kathleen Hanna, lead singer of Bikini Kill and Le Tigre. It was edited by TEC Alum Bo Mehrad (Nov/Dec 2007). The official website is here.

Narrative Film Announced for November/December 2013 Class

The narrative for the upcoming November 11 - December 20, 2013 class will be Listen Up, Philip, starring Jason Schwartzman (Rushmore, "Bored to Death"), Elizabeth Moss ("Mad Men," "Top of the Lake") and Krysten Ritter ("Breaking Bad," "Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23"), written and directed by Alex Ross Perry (The Color Wheel) and produced by Sailor Bear (Ain't Them Bodies Saints). Film Edited by TEC Alum Released in Theaters

Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me, edited by TEC Alum Chris Branca (Page One: Inside the New York Times) premieres in theaters today. After a successful festival run at South by Southwest and the Seattle International Film Festival, the film was picked up by Magnolia Pictures for a theatrical release. Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me premieres in Los Angeles on July 5th. Film Edited by TEC Alum Premieres on HBO

Gideon's Army, edited by TEC Alum Matthew Hamachek (If a Tree Falls, Racing Dreams) premieres today on HBO. Matthew received the Editing Award for his work on the film at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, where it had its world premiere in January. Gideon's Army follows three young, committed Public Defenders through their staggering caseloads, low pay, and long hours in a job that the vast majority of people give up after only a few years. Class Film Selected for SundanceNOW's Doc Club

Class film A Matter of Taste has been added to SundanceNOW's Doc Club in its Culinary Cinema category. A Matter of Taste was produced by TEC alum Rachel Mills and edited by TEC alum Amy Foote (Finishing Heaven). It had its world premiere at South by Southwest in 2011, which kicked off a successful run at festivals such as the Full Frame Film Festival and the Tribeca Film Festival. Class Film Bought by IFC

Edit Center class film The Punk Singer has been picked up for distribution by Sundance Selects. Edited by TEC Alum Bo Mehrad, the film had its world premiere at the 2013 South by Southwest film festival, where it received critical acclaim. It follows the life of activist, musician, and cultural icon Kathleen Hanna, who formed the punk band Binkini Kill and pioneered the "riot grrrl" movement of the 1990s. Class Film to Air on PBS's Independent Lens

2011 class film All of Me had its world premiere this weekend at the Los Angeles Film Festival where it was named one of 22 Don't Miss Films. The film was edited by Edit Center Alum Sarah Devorkin (Stranger Powers). All of Me follows the lives of a group of obese women living in Texas and their different journeys through the affects of weight-loss surgery on their lives and relationships. The film has also been picked up by PBS's Independent Lens and will air in its 2013-2014 season. For updates on the film's PBS release and other information, please visit the official website
