“The biggest tech revolution of the 21st Century isn't digital, it's biological. A breakthrough called CRISPR has given us unprecedented control over the basic building blocks of life. It opens the door to curing diseases, reshaping the biosphere, and designing our own children. Human Nature is a provocative exploration of CRISPR's far-reaching implications, through the eyes of the scientists who discovered it, the families its affecting, and the bio-engineers who are testing its limits. How will this new power change our relationship with nature? What will it mean for human evolution? To begin to answer these questions we must look back billions of years and peer into an uncertain future.”

TEC Alum Produced Film Premiering at NYFF 2019

We're excited to announce that an alumni produced documentary feature Born To Be will have it's World Premiere at this year's New York Film Festival!

Born to Be-02.jpg

Born To Be | Directed by Tania Cypriano, Produced by Rachel Mills

Born to Be.jpg

“Soon after New York state passed a 2015 law that health insurance should cover transgender-related care and services, director Tania Cypriano and producer Michelle Hayashi began bringing their cameras behind the scenes at New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital, where this remarkable documentary captures the emotional and physical journey of surgical transitioning. Lending equal narrative weight to the experiences of the center’s groundbreaking surgeon Dr. Jess Ting and those of his diverse group of patients, Born to Be perfectly balances compassionate personal storytelling and fly-on-the-wall vérité. It’s a film of astonishing access—most importantly into the lives, joys, and fears of the people at its center.”

TEC Alum Directs Short Premiering at NYFF 2019

We're excited to announce that an alumni directed short will have it's World Premiere at this year's New York Film Festival!

Automatic | Directed by Emma Doxiadi

“Two young women convince each other they are under threat after accidentally photographing what they believe to be a concealed automatic rifle. Shot in drawn-out, static takes, Emma Doxiadi’s comical mystery comments on Greece’s ongoing refugee crisis in real time, pointing squarely at foolish knee-jerk reactions.”

The film will have its World Premiere at NYFF Short Program 3: Narrative. This year’s four Shorts programs feature a mix of narrative and documentary films from established and emerging artists, with 10 world premieres, including all titles in the annual New York Stories program.

badeducation_0HERO.jpg

Bad Education | Editor Louise Ford, Assistant Editor Katrina Pastore (TEC Alums)

Directed by Cory Finley

“Hugh Jackman, Allison Janney, and Ray Romano star in this fact-based dramedy directed by Cory Finley (Thoroughbreds), about an infamous school-larceny scandal that rocked Long Island in the early aughts.”

Dads | Assistant Editor Kayla Sklar (TEC Alum)

dads_0hero.jpg

Directed by Bryce Dallas Howard

“Dads is a joyful exploration of contemporary fatherhood. The film draws on the testimonies of famous funnymen such as Judd Apatow, Will Smith, Jimmy Fallon, Neil Patrick Harris, Kenan Thompson, Jimmy Kimmel, and Ken Jeong. Their reflections are combined with portraits of non-celebrity dads from different parts of the world — Brazil, Japan, the United States — who are creating new models of patriarchy. It's funny, heartwarming, and also revealing. (Apparently even professional comedians resort to dad jokes.)”

Frankie 2019.png

Frankie | Assistant Editor Matt Yaple (TEC Alum)

Directed by Ira Sachs

“An aging actor (Isabelle Huppert) summons her idiosyncratic extended family on a fateful holiday, in Ira Sachs’ thoughtful dramedy co-starring Marisa Tomei, Brendan Gleeson, Jérémie Renier, and Greg Kinnear.”

the lighthouse.0.jpg

The Lighthouse | Editor Louise Ford, Assistant Editor Katrina Pastore

“Shot on 35mm black-and-white film, this psychological thriller from Robert Eggers (The Witch) follows the slow descent into madness of two lighthouse keepers (Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson) on a remote New England island at the turn of the 19th century.”
