Personal Statement the October/November 2015 six-week class film will have its NYC Premiere at the Margaret Mead Film Festival.

Personal Statement follows the story of Brooklyn high school seniors who just want to go to college, but like so many public school students throughout the country, their schools don't have enough college guidance support. Refusing to give up, they decide to work as college counselors in their schools, becoming the very resource they don't have themselves.

Announcing the Narrative and Documentary Teachers for Our October/November Six-Week Class

We're happy to announce that Betsy Kagen and Èlia Gasull Balada will be teaching our October/November 2018 Six-Week class!

Betsy Kagen is a narrative and documentary film editor. Her most recent credits include Who We Are Now, which premiered at the 2017 Toronto Film Festival (starring Julianne Nicholson, Emma Roberts, Jimmy Smits, and Zachary Quinto); The King (directed by Eugene Jarecki), which premiered at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival; My Art (starring Laurie Simmons, Robert Clohessy, John Rothman, Blair Brown, Parker Posey, and Lena Dunham), which premiered at the 2016 Venice Film Festival; and All This Panic, a documentary which premiered at the 2016 Tribeca film festival. Betsy is currently editing director Adam Leon's upcoming film starring Vanessa Kirby and Maya Hawke.

Èlia Gasull Balada is an editor with experience in narrative and documentary features, film and television. She is based in New York with extensive experience as an editor and post-production supervisor in Spain. Her credits as an editor include The King and Icaros: A Vision (which premiered at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival). Previously, Èlia edited the documentary Man of the Monkey, which was part of the 2014 IFP Documentary Labs and was also awarded the Heineken VOCES Grant from Tribeca Film Institute's Latin American Media Arts Fund. She is currently working on a feature documentary about Halston, the American fashion designer, directed by Frédérich Tcheng (Dior and I) and will be released in 2019.


TEC Alum and Six-Week Class Film Now Streaming on iTunes

After premiering at the Sarasota Film Festival, Old Dog is now available on iTunes for download.

Old Dog follows Paul Sorenson, a New Zealand farmer and veteran dog whisperer, as he shares his training methods to the next generation of shepherds.

TEC alum Sally Rowe served as director and producer, Regina Sobel as editor, Isabel Ponte as an Associate Producer and Hannah Beaton as Assistant Editor.

TEC Alum Film Premiering on POV Tonight

93Queen, edited by TEC alum Becky Laks and directed by TEC alum Paula Esielt, is set to premiere tonight, September 17th, 2018 on PBS’s POV.

The story delves deeply into a group of Hasidic female EMT’s in Brooklyn’s Borough Park. 93Queen follows the women as they combat the patriarchal attitudes of the community they are trying to serve.

93Queen was also an official selection of Hot Docs film festival and continues to have a successful theatrical run.

The Song of Sway Lake, March/April 2013 class film will have an NYC theatrical run beginning September 21st at Cinema Village.

A young man’s plot to steal a valuable jazz record from his grandmother’s lake house is derailed when his accomplice falls for the matriarch.

TEC Alum and Six-Week Class Film to Premiere at Raindance

Major Arcana, October/November 2016 & March/April 2017 class film will have it's world premiere on September 27th at the Raindance Film Festival in London. 

Major Arcana - Directed by TEC Alum Josh Melrod and Edited by TEC Alum Betsy Kagen
Set in the backwoods of Vermont, Major Arcana follows an itinerant carpenter's quixotic struggle to end a legacy of alcoholism and poverty as he attempts to build a log cabin by hand. His plans are complicated when he reunites with Sierra, a woman with whom he shares a troubled past, and he is forced to reconcile his old life with his new one.

TEC Alum and Six-Week Class Film to Have NY Theatrical Release

93Queen, November/December 2013, January/February 2015, and June/July 2016 class film will be making its NYC debut on July 25th at the IFC Center.

Set in the Hasidic enclave of Borough Park, Brooklyn, 93QUEEN follows a group of tenacious Hasidic women who are smashing the patriarchy in their community by creating the first all-female volunteer ambulance corps in New York City. With unprecedented and insider access, 93QUEEN offers a unique portrayal of a group of religious women who are taking matters into their own hands to change their own community from within.

TEC Alum Film Now Streaming on iTunes

SIDEMEN - Long Road To Glory, edited by TEC Alum Bo Mehrad, was just released on iTunes after a theatrical run. It premiered at SXSW 2016 and was picked up by Abramorama. 

The film is directed by Scott Rosenbaum, narrated by Marc Maron. It stars Bonnie Raitt, Greg Allman, Joe Perry, Derek Trucks (among others). 

SIDEMEN - Long Road To Glory is an intimate look at the incredible lives and legacies of 3 legendary blues sidemen, Pinetop Perkins, Willie Smith & Hubert Sumlin. All Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf sidemen, whose career spanned over 60 years. 

Variety called it "An Exceptionally and captivating tribute".
