Announcing our Narrative Teacher for July/August!

We are very excited to announce that Meg Reticker will be teaching the narrative section of our July/August 2016 Six-Week class!

Meg is an accomplished editor in both film and television. Her television credits include the award-winning shows "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt", "True Detective", "30 Rock", "Bored To Death", "Big Love", and "The Wire". Meg won the 2009 Eddie award and received multiple Emmy nominations for the NBC show "30 Rock". She recently completed editing Jonathan Ames new show "Blunt Talk" starring Patrick Stewart on STARZ. Meg’s feature film credits include Lucky Them directed by Megan Griffiths, Come Early Morning directed by Joey Lauren Adams, Winter Passing by Adam Rapp, the documentary A Decade Under the Influence directed by Richard LaGravenese and Ted Demme, Wet Hot American Summer directed by David Wain, and Heavy directed by James Mangold. She also worked with Michael Moore on his documentary The Big One and his Bravo television series, "The Awful Truth".

Class Project 93Queen at IFP's Documentary Lab

The documentary 93Queen, a six-week class project directed by TEC alum Paula Eiselt, was chosen to be a part of the 2016 IFP Filmmaker Labs, IFP’s annual yearlong fellowship for first-time feature directors. Paula writes about the experience:

I think many of us came to the Lab exhausted from our processes and in need of both guidance and brutal honesty. So, if I had to describe the Lab in one word it would be nurturing.

Announcing the Narrative Teachers for our June Six-Week Class

We are very excited to announce that Kate Sanford and Marc Vives will be teaching the narrative section of our June/July 2016 Six-Week Art of Editing class!

Kate Sanford is an award-winning feature film and television editor with over 20 years of experience. She’s won two American Cinema Editors awards for her work on "The Wire" and "Treme". She also edited HBO’s Golden Globe-winning series "Boardwalk Empire". Her feature film credits include Outside Providence, O, and Brooklyn Rules. Kate just finished editing the first season of Martin Scorsese’s critically acclaimed series "Vinyl".

Marc Vives is a graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and has been a film editor since 2006. To date he has edited 13 feature films, encompassing fiction, non-fiction, and hybrid works. In 2013 he was co-nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Editing for Jem Cohen’s Museum Hours. Other credits include The Adderall Diaries starring Amber Heard, James Franco, and Ed Harris and the upcoming sci-fi thriller Approaching the Unknown, with Mark Strong and Luke Wilson. He's been an editor at the Sundance Director's Lab and has served as an editing mentor for IFP’s Narrative Independent Filmmaker Lab for the last four years. He lives with his wife, daughter, and cat in Brooklyn.

Two TEC alumni films are opening and closing this year's BAMcinemaFest! 

Little Men, edited by TEC alum Mollie Goldstein and TEC teacher Affonso Gonçalves, with TEC alums Brian Young and Katrina Pastore serving as assistant editors, kicks off opening night on Wednesday, June 15th. You can read more about the film and get ticket information here

New Alex Ross Perry Film For June 2016 Six-Week Class

We're thrilled to announce that the six-week Art of Editing class project for our upcoming June/July session will be Golden Exits, starring Jason Schwartzman (Rushmore), Mary-Louise Parker (“Weeds”), Chloë Sevigny (Boys Don't Cry), and Ad-Rock of the Beastie Boys (While We're Young). It’s directed by Alex Ross Perry, whose previous two films, Listen Up Philip and Queen of Earth, premiered at Sundance and the Berlin International Film Festival, respectively, and were both NYT Critics’ Picks.

The six-week Art of Editing class at The Edit Center gives students a unique opportunity to learn from experienced film editors while working on a real film. You can learn more about the class here

 

Filmmaker Magazine Interview about TEC Alum Film Obit

Filmmaker Magazine interviewed Vanessa Gould, director of Obit, which premiered at this year's Tribeca Film Festival and explores the inner-workings of The New York Times obituary department. When asked about crafting the story, Vanessa praises TEC alum Kristin Bye:

Kristin Bye, the film’s editor, did a masterful job of communicating the passage of time and the pressure of deadlines through clues in the light and sound of the building and the surroundings.

TEC Class Project listed as NY Times "favorite" at Tribeca

Women Who Kill, January/February 2016 six-week class project, edited by TEC alum Ron Dulin, is highlighted in The New York Times article "How to Make Sense of the Tribeca Film Festival."

My favorite of the American films, Ingrid Jungermann’s Women Who Kill, is a comedy so low-key and diffident, not to mention morbid, that it can take several beats to catch on to the jokes.
